Poppy seed palmiers

  • 4 ingredients
  • 13 steps

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup poppy seeds
  • 1 beaten egg

Step-by-step preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 °C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the sugar and poppy seeds.
  3. Sprinkle the sugar and poppy seed mixture over a flat surface.
  4. Lay the puff pastry over the mixture and press lightly so it sticks to the pastry.
  5. Turn the pastry over and sprinkle the rest of the mixture on the other side.
  6. Fold the two short edges of the pastry toward the center until they meet in the middle.
  7. Fold the short edges toward the center again until they meet in the middle.
  8. Fold the pastry in half, like closing a book.
  9. Cut the pastry into slices 1 cm thick.
  10. Place the slices on the baking sheet, leaving a little space between them.
  11. Brush each slice with beaten egg so it browns in the oven.
  12. Bake for 15–20 minutes, until the palmiers are golden and crisp.
  13. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Enjoy sweet, crunchy poppy seed palmiers. Try other seeds or spice mixes, or sprinkle them with grated parmesan and fresh herbs such as rosemary or oregano for a savory version.
