- 7 steps
Ingredients
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 4 tablespoons flour
- 4 cups milk
- Salt, pepper and nutmeg to taste
Step-by-step preparation
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat until completely liquid.
- Add the flour and stir constantly until a smooth, golden paste forms, about 2–3 minutes.
- Add the milk 1/2 cup at a time, stirring constantly after each addition until the mixture is smooth and lump-free.
- Keep cooking until the sauce comes to a boil and thickens, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
- Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg to taste.
- Keep cooking over low heat for a few more minutes, stirring constantly, until the béchamel is smooth and creamy.
- Remove from the heat and let the sauce cool slightly before using it in your lasagna.
To assemble the lasagna, spread a layer of béchamel in the bottom of a baking dish, then add a layer of lasagna sheets. Repeat until you’ve used all the sauce and pasta, and finish with a layer of grated cheese. Bake in an oven preheated to 375 °F (190 °C) for 30–35 minutes, until golden and bubbling.
