Fig jam

  • 6 ingredients
  • 7 steps

Ingredients

  • 1 kg fresh figs, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Step-by-step preparation

  1. In a large pot, mix the figs, sugar, water, lemon juice, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  2. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for about 60–90 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the figs are soft and the mixture has thickened and reduced to a jam.
  4. Remove the pot from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a food processor and blend until smooth.
  6. Pour the jam into sterilized jars and seal the lids tightly.
  7. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, until completely cool and ready to serve.

Enjoy your fig jam! It’s perfect on toast, with yogurt and cheese, or in baking for a special touch of flavor. Experiment with different spices and herbs to create your own versions.
