Ingredients

  • 1 kg apples, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup aged rum
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Step-by-step preparation

  1. In a large pot, mix the chopped apples, sugar, water, rum, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg.
  2. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for about 30–40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and the mixture has thickened.
  4. Remove the pot from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a food processor and blend until smooth.
  6. Pour the jam into sterilized jars and seal the lids tightly.
  7. Refrigerate the jam for at least 1 hour, until completely cool and ready to serve.
