Oven-roasted chestnuts

  • 2 ingredients
  • 7 steps

Ingredients

  • 500 g fresh chestnuts
  • Salt

Step-by-step preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 °C.
  2. Wash the chestnuts and score the top of each one with a sharp knife. This cut lets them cook properly in the oven.
  3. Spread the chestnuts on a baking tray, making sure they’re not piled up.
  4. Sprinkle the chestnuts with salt. You can also use other seasonings, like pepper or herbs.
  5. Roast the chestnuts for about 20–30 minutes, depending on their size. The shells should start to open and the flesh should become tender.
  6. Take the chestnuts out of the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before peeling. Use your hands or a knife to remove the shell and inner skin; if the chestnuts are well roasted, both should come off easily.
  7. Serve the chestnuts warm and enjoy their soft, sweet flavor and texture.

And that’s it! Now you know how to roast chestnuts in the oven for a delicious snack or side. Enjoy!
