  • 7 ingredients
  • 9 steps

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and finely diced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

Step-by-step preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 °C and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
  3. In a bowl, mix the diced apples, brown sugar and cinnamon.
  4. Spoon the apple mixture down the center of the pastry, leaving about 5 cm (2 inches) clear on each side.
  5. Fold the edges of the pastry over the apple filling, forming a braid.
  6. Brush the braid with the melted butter.
  7. Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with the granulated sugar.
  8. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden and crisp.
  9. Let the braid cool for a few minutes before serving.

Enjoy a sweet, crunchy apple braid. Add chopped walnuts or raisins to the filling for extra flavor, and adjust the sugar and cinnamon to taste.
