Mixed berry compote

  • 5 ingredients
  • 6 steps

Ingredients

  • 2 cups mixed berries (blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, etc.)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water

Step-by-step preparation

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the berries, sugar and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat for about 5–10 minutes, until the berries start to release their juice and the sugar dissolves.
  2. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with the water until completely dissolved.
  3. Add the cornstarch mixture to the berries and stir well.
  4. Cook over medium-low heat for another 5–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened to a sauce-like consistency.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat and let the compote cool for a few minutes before using.
  6. Serve the berry compote with desserts like tarts, ice cream or yogurt.

Extra tips

  • Adjust the amount of sugar to your taste.
  • For a smoother sauce, blend the berries with a hand blender or food processor before adding the cornstarch.
  • If the compote gets too thick, add a little more water to thin it.
  • You can use other fruits to make a cooked fruit sauce, such as strawberries, mango or pineapple.
  • The berry compote keeps in an airtight container in the fridge for several days.

And that’s it! Now you know how to make a delicious mixed berry compote to go with your favorite desserts. Enjoy!
