Toothless dragon cake

  • 13 ingredients
  • 9 steps

Ingredients

For the cake

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract

For decorating

  • Black and white fondant
  • Green and yellow food coloring
  • Piping bags and tips in different sizes
  • Toothpicks

Step-by-step preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 °F (175 °C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt.
  3. Add the water, vegetable oil, vinegar and vanilla extract. Mix well until everything is combined.
  4. Pour the batter into two round cake pans and bake for 30–35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before turning them out onto a rack to cool completely.
  6. To decorate, cover the cakes with black and white fondant. Use green and yellow coloring for the dragon’s eyes and mouth.
  7. With the black fondant, make the dragon’s wings, tail and legs. Use toothpicks to add texture and details to the wings and tail.
  8. Place the wings, tail and legs on the cake. Use a piping bag and tip to add details such as scales, claws and teeth.
  9. Once decorated, place Toothless in the center of the cake and decorate around him with black and green fondant details to complete the scene.

And that’s it! A beautiful Toothless dragon cake to impress your guests at a How to Train Your Dragon party, or just to enjoy at home with friends and family. Enjoy your creation!
