Little mummy cake

  • 14 ingredients
  • 9 steps

Ingredients

For the cake

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

For decorating

  • White frosting
  • White fondant
  • Black food coloring
  • Piping bag and round tip
  • Toothpicks

Step-by-step preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 °F (175 °C) and prepare a small 6-inch round cake pan with nonstick spray or butter and flour.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt.
  3. Add the water, vegetable oil, vanilla extract and vinegar to the flour mixture and beat until smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 20–25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning it out onto a rack to cool completely.
  6. To decorate, cover the cake with white frosting.
  7. Roll out the white fondant and cut it into thin strips. Wrap the strips around the cake to look like a mummy, leaving a few gaps between the “bandages” and using a little water to stick the strips together.
  8. Use the piping bag and round tip with black-tinted frosting to pipe small dots for the mummy’s eyes.
  9. Use toothpicks to add small details around the eyes for the pupils.

And that’s it! A little mummy cake to impress your guests at Halloween or any spooky party. Enjoy your creation!
