Black squid ink pizza dough

  • 7 ingredients
  • 14 steps

Ingredients

  • 400 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons squid ink
  • 250 ml warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Step-by-step preparation

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, salt and sugar.
  2. Add the dry yeast and mix well.
  3. In another bowl, dissolve the squid ink in the warm water.
  4. Add the ink water to the flour mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
  5. Add the olive oil and mix well.
  6. Dust a clean, flat surface with a little flour and place the dough on it.
  7. Knead the dough for 5–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  8. Shape the dough into a ball and place it in an oiled bowl. Cover with a clean cloth and let it rise in a warm place for at least 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  9. Once risen, turn the dough out of the bowl and knead it briefly to knock out the air.
  10. Divide the dough into portions according to the size of pizzas you want.
  11. Dust a clean surface with flour and roll out the dough to the thickness you like.
  12. Place the dough on a greased pizza pan.
  13. Add tomato sauce and your choice of toppings (cheese, seafood, vegetables, etc.).
  14. Bake in an oven preheated to 220 °C for 10–15 minutes, until the pizza is crisp.

And that’s it! A delicious pizza with a black, slightly salty dough. This recipe is very easy to adapt with different toppings. Squid ink doesn’t just change the color of the dough, it also adds a unique, slightly briny flavor that goes very well with seafood.
