  • 10 ingredients
  • 12 steps

Ingredients

  • 500 g wheat flour
  • 200 g sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon ground star anise
  • 1 packet baking powder
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • Oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, to decorate

Step-by-step preparation

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking powder and lemon zest.
  2. In another bowl, beat the eggs and add the olive oil, milk and ground star anise.
  3. Add the egg mixture to the flour and mix well until the dough is well combined.
  4. Knead the dough for a few minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest in the fridge for at least an hour.
  6. After an hour, take the dough out of the fridge and shape it into small balls the size of a walnut.
  7. Shape each ball into a ring by pressing your finger through the center to make the hole.
  8. Place the rings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them rest for about 30 minutes.
  9. In a deep pan, heat the oil over medium-high heat until hot.
  10. Fry the rosquillas in the hot oil for about 2–3 minutes per side, until golden and crisp.
  11. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  12. Dust the rosquillas with powdered sugar and serve.

And that’s it! Delicious star anise rosquillas to enjoy. They’re very easy to make and perfect for any occasion. Enjoy!
